🌈 This is a weekly, ongoing class offering individual tuition to help build students' skill and confidence in creative writing. We'll study examples of inspiring text as a springboard for crafting our own creative work. 🌈 The course will be progressive in content. We'll learn about the power and value of words and descriptive phrases, how to construct eloquent sentences following the conventions of English grammar, and then advance to paragraph structure and, finally, a short story. We'll begin each session by critically analyzing a short text of varying genres, each time with a different learning focus, and then proceed to craft our own. 🌈 Please note this course is personalized for each student! I will tweak and tailor the lesson content depending on students' age and proficiency. Our overarching aim for this course is to nurture confidence and a love and appreciation of words and writing. 🌈 The first six weeks' learning objectives include, but are not limited to: Week 1 - The power and value of words: Exploring synonyms, antonyms, and nuance. Week 2- Descriptive phrases: Composing expanded noun and verb groups. Week 3 - Clarity and eloquence in sentences: Identifying sentence types (declarative, interrogative, exclamatory, and imperative), and how to construct simple, compound and complex sentences. Understanding the importance of composing sentences of varying lengths and complexity for creative and engaging composition. Week 4 - Literary devices: Elevating our writing through figurative language (such as alliteration, assonance, simile, metaphor, personification, anthropomorphism, onomatopoeia, juxtaposition, oxymoron, imagery, hyperbole, and symbolism), and understanding the role of a fragment and rhetorical question as tools to enhance creative writing. Week 5 - Perfect paragraphs: Constructing model paragraphs. Week 6 - Literary composition: Planning and drafting a creative essay. 🌈 I will assign weekly writing tasks for students to practice and extend what we've covered in class. Please could completed work be returned two days before the next class, to afford me the opportunity of providing feedback. 🌈 All sessions will be personalized to support the attainment of students' individual academic goals. I aim to foster a relaxed, positive, patient, and supportive environment in my classes, where each student feels safe, valued, and recognized. 🌈 I am a qualified teacher with a degree in English Literature and Poetry.
