Description
Class Experience
My goal is to show children history can be experienced and not only read about in a book. Teaching history while creating and then eating your creation is not only fun, but it helps the learning be a memorable experience.
I have four children of my own and we are often baking batches of shortbread cookies.
Learners will need to clean up their workspace once they are finished. Wipe down counters, put away ingredients and wash dishes.
Supplies and Ingredients: Butter (at room temperature) *If you have taken Pioneer Winter Days: Homemade Butter with me you may use your new skill of butter making prior to this class and use your freshly made butter for your Shortbread Cookies! Powdered Sugar Flour Salt Vanilla Extract Large bowl Circle cookie cutter or small mouthed cup or jar Parchment paper Cookie Sheet Measuring spoons Measuring cups Electric mixer Optional: Rolling pin is helpful but not required
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
NOTE: We will be using the oven during class, depending on your learner's baking experience it is recommended to have an adult near by when putting cookies into and removing them from the oven. IMPORTANT: We will be using butter and flour in this recipe, please be aware if you have a diary and/or gluten allergy. If you chose to, you may substitute the standard flour for flour of your choice whether it's gluten free or not. HOWEVER, I must note I have ZERO experience using gluten free flour with this recipe.
