Class Experience

In this class, students will be introduced to Calligram poetry. A Calligram poem is a poem in which the calligraphy (i.e. the letters and font) represent an aspect of the poem's subject. Students will read and discuss examples of Calligram poetry and how the poems can be created. After watching a teacher demonstration of how to write and create a Calligram poem, students will then write three original poems about their favorite things (i.e. hobbies, places, people, etc). and using WordArt.com will turn their poetry into visual representations. Students will then be provided the opportunity to share their drafts or final poems with the class or on the class discussion board for feedback from the teacher after class. This is a class for poets of all stages and no prior experience is necessary.

Class Structure:
Note: The times are approximate and may need to be adjusted as the class evolves.

Writing Time (30 minutes): Students will be provided time to write three of their own poems about their favorite things (i.e. hobbies, places, people, etc). I will be there to assist students in their writing as they need.
