Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
In this lesson, students will begin by reviewing counting by 1's. Students will then be able to identify and find the value of a penny by counting groups of pennies and writing the amount through google slides. Further, into the lesson, each slide will have a mixture of coins where students will have to identify the pennies and write the value shown on their whiteboard or piece of paper. This will let the teacher know if students are grasping the material.

Students will be provided with their own coin cutouts (or they may use their own from home) where they will be given an amount and they will have to show that amount using pennies. As a conclusion to our lesson students will sing a song about the penny.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to recognize a penny, know its value, and count any amount of pennies together.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and thank you for stopping by.

My name is Nicole Brower. I have been teaching full time for 17 years as an elementary school teacher. I am certified for K-8 but my heart has always been in elementary grades (k-2).

I specialize in teaching young learners various reading strategies that focus on reading fluency, reading comprehension as well as getting young mathematicians excited for math.

Throughout my years of teaching, I have collaborated in revising the English Language Arts Curriculum for our very large school district.

I have taught first and second-grade students as well as tutoring English online to students living in China for the past year and a half.

I equip students with strategies to become independent learners as well as enjoy learning.

As a teacher for 17 years and as a mom, I understand that every student is unique and learns in many different ways, but I know all students can and want to learn - I feel It is my responsibility to ensure that happens.

Education and developing young minds is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding jobs a person can have in my opinion. I believe in fun and engaging learning so much. I have also co-created an educational YouTube Channel where my two young daughters are a part of this process as well.
