Description

Class Experience

Students will use critical thinking skills to deepen their comprehension of the story.
Students will analyze characters and how they change throughout the story.
Students will compare and contrast characters and events in the story.
Students will summarize the chapters and the story.
Students will look for descriptive details in the story to form pictures in their mind.
Students will learn the important things in life and not to take them for granted through the characters in the story.
Students will learn about penguins.
I have been an elementary classroom teacher for 16 years. I have taught this novel study many times to my 3rd graders in Reading.
Students will be responsible for reading the chapters at home ahead of class time for the week to be prepared for class discussion and activities. Please see the above schedule. 
Mr. Popper’s Penguins book by Richard and Florence Atwater pencil and paper novel study sheets that I upload each week in the classroom
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There will be no formal assessment. However, students will be informally assessed by how well they participate in the class discussion and activities.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Please be aware that we will discuss what the time period was like that Mr. Popper is set in. It is set in the 1930s when life was a lot different. 
I will upload novel study sheets to the classroom each class to use for our discussion and activities.
