Class Experience

Oh no! The instruments have gone missing and the concert starts in a half hour!! Can you solve musical clues to help find all the instruments so the musicians can play the concert?

In this one-time, escape room style class, we will work our way through musical math, break codes, and answer technical clues to help us find and identify 9 musical instruments. Class will consist of visually appealing slides presented on screen during the session, and musical examples will be shared via advanced audio. Everyone will have several opportunities for turns, and anyone can chat privately to me their answers when it is not their turn. We will work together rather than competitively, and those that need extra hints can have them.

Musicians do not have to have any prior musical experience and all the answers will be provided in case any one wants to study up beforehand or check answers as we work through the clues.

As a teacher, I am considered high energy and can be super silly at times. I am always looking for ways to make learning music as fun as possible. I like to allow some time to chat and get to know each other. I am inclusive, supportive, and am available to answer questions any time.

Learning Goals

Students will learn about:
- Musical terms like: Treble and Bass Clef, Conductor, Dynamics, Step and Skip, and Musician Groupings like solo, duo, trio, etc.
- Some note names on the Treble Clef Staff
- Quarter, Half and Whole Notes and their Values
- 9 Musical Instruments: Violin, Cello, Flute, Clarinet, Bassoon, Trombone, French Horn, Guitar, and Harp

This class is for beginners. Though most musicians will be able to get through the escape room style game to find the instruments, some musicians may benefit by looking over the PDF materials before class to see what will be covered. Other musicians may like to use this class as a way to test their knowledge. No musical experience or instrument is required.
