Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this one-time class we will examine one of Britain's most significant landmarks. You will learn about the history of this 1,000-year-old fortress and its changing role from medieval times right up to present day. You will see pictures and I will tell you stories where you will discover that some kings used the Tower for unusual and fearsome purposes!

We start out by looking at what the Tower looks like today and what you can do there when you visit. Then we delve into the dark history of the Tower and meet some of its famous prisoners. We look at the incredible royal treasures kept there and listen to the queen herself describing what it is like to wear the crown. The Tower of London has a special Royal Guard and we learn to recognise their unique uniforms. What did King Charles II decree in 1662 that is still observed today? We learn about the fascinating legend of the Tower's ravens and meet the Ravenmaster. That must be the coolest job in the world!

There are quiz questions to check our understanding of what we’ve learned. Students can make notes and drawings on their fact sheet to personalise their learning. This class welcomes all questions regarding fortresses, castles, British kings, queens, ravens, and modern London. Students do not need any background knowledge and at the end of the class will know a lot of facts about British Royal History.
