Class Experience

Based on the comedic Shakespearean classic "A Midsummer Night's Dream," this enchanting ballet full of fairies, ironically mismatched love, and beautiful dancing has wowed audiences for decades.

In this Ballet performance class, we will learn the story of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in an age appropriate way. Learners will listen to the orchestral music used throughout the ballet as we expand on ballet techniques in our classes together. Dancers are expected to have a prior foundation of ballet, and we will continue to build strength and skill through new movements over the span of our course.

We will learn a choreographed dance, which will be introduced in sections each week, and will be performed during our final week of class. Dancers will be sent an additional link with a practice video so they have the ability to rehearse between their weekly lessons.

We will focus on the following techniques (and more if time allows) during our seven week course.
Week 1: 4th & 5th positions, soutee, changement
Week 2: Arabesque into Passe soutee, pas de bouree into pirouettes
Week 3: Battement front/side/back sequence, Piquettes in a similar sequence
Week 4: Glissade into grande jette
Week 5: Frappe, Develope
Week 6: Switch leaps
Week 7: Final Performance

Class Sequence are as follows:
Improvisational games
Stretching & Warm Up
Barrework (a barre, chair, or edge of a couch may be used here)

Notes:
1. Students are expected to be familiar with at least: 1st-3rd positions, point/flex, tendu, battement, arabesque, passe, basic pirouette, & basic barrework. Please feel free to contact the teacher with any questions.
2. At least 2 students must be enrolled for this class to run

Hello current friends and future friends!
Welcome to Ms. Sarah's virtual classes! I am super excited to share my passions including dance, world travel, music, writing, theater, and more with your children! My typical classes are high energy and intended to build skills, increase confidence, and have fun.
I graduated with honors with a double major in Psychology and Communications with a minor in Music from The City University of New York--Hunter College. I studied in Argentina at La Universidad de Mar del Plata and I hold a TESOL Certificate from Arizona State University.

My experience includes both in-school and online teaching, particularly as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher over the last four years and as a dance teacher for about ten years. As an ESL teacher, have worked with thousands of foreign learners, guiding them to high achievement with their English skills. I've created and utilized many tools and techniques to increase student output and improve their written, spoken, and reading skills. I also work as a mentor for new online ESL teachers. I was also who helped build the English skills of students at a local school in Livingstone, Zambia in Africa. I have taught and can speak both Spanish and Hebrew as well.

I am a trained dancer with experience holding classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary, theater, and hip hop. I studied and trained my whole life as a dancer. I danced with companies and in shows in New York City. I have also taught dance at schools in New York City, abroad in other countries. I hold both personal and virtual dance and movement classes with the company I created in my area. I ran the dance department at a day rehabilitation facility for special needs adults and at a school for the blind. What is my philosophy behind teaching dance? Dance is an art form. It is a creation of movement used to tell a story. My classes are constructed with the aim of building the student's confidence and providing a safe space for their own exploration. Classes are meant to be challenging, but very fun!

Fun Fact: Upon graduating from college, my big goal was to hit "30 before 30!" I have traveled the world, meeting so many different people along the way, as I made it my mission to see 30 countries. I am looking forward to meeting all of my future friends who live around the USA and around the world.

I am so excited to see you soon in my classroom!
