This course is designed to teach about early Colonial America spanning the 1700s to the 1800s. The course is aligned with the fifth-grade social studies curriculum and also offers supplemented information. In the course students will learn about early America and some European countries. Students will be required to meet twice a week for 45 minutes to discuss their assigned self-work and the learning objectives. Week 1 • Apply the concept of change over time by organizing turning points of events--overview of major American events. Week 2 • Find, apply and organize information specific to social studies by reading, observing, and asking questions • Be able to interpret maps including the title, legend/key, date, author, and scale Week 3 • Give examples of how the rule of law has impacted the rights and responsibilities of people Week 4 • Explain the meaning and importance of democratic values and principles fundamental to the United States government Week 5 • Examine significant historical ideas, beliefs, and themes. • Analyze how conflicts affect relationships among individuals and groups. Week 6 Review and Assessment
