Class Experience

This course is designed to evaluate historical events in American history. In this seven weeks class, students will learn to evaluate situations of all persons represented in American history. Students will apply a critical lens and understand social to political issues that helped to shape the country we know today. This course does have a heavier work load than normal classes I teach. Students will be required to complete small homework assignments to prepare for class discussion and group activities.

Week 1: This week students will review the leading causes of The War of 1812 and evaluate the Star Spangled Banner.
Week 2: Students will evaluate American culture from the War of 1812 to The Civil War. Students will be encouraged to conduct their own research on Historian’s point of view of The Civil War.
Week 3: Students will learn about the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments called the Civil War Amendments, and the Jim Crow Era.
Week 4: Students will examine the political era during Jim Crow, and be introduced to the Progressive Era.
Week 5: Students will be introduced to the culture of the “Roaring 20s” and examine some of the social life.
Week 6: Students will examine both WWI and WWII and social implications that lead to the Civil Rights Era.
Week 7: Students will be required to present a one page summary of the knowledge gained from the course. The last class will consist of a review and quiz.

Get ready for an incredible educational adventure! I am thrilled to introduce two dynamic series: "A Journey Through Time" and "Future Scholars." "A Journey Through Time" will immerse you in the fascinating world of historical periods, while "Future Scholars" will ignite your passion for research and writing.

As a dedicated business owner, education is the key to unlocking future success. My educational journey began with a Bachelor's in Psychology from Mary Baldwin College in 2010. After graduation, I embraced a teaching assistant role at a Montessori school in Staunton, Virginia, which sparked my love for education. I then pursued a Master's degree in Forensic Psychology from Argosy University online, professionally tutoring and working as a training supervisor for the state government. My love for learning and history propelled me to achieve a doctorate from Walden University in March 2019.

My passion for tutoring and mentoring led me to establish my own consulting business, offering educational consulting services in Richmond, Virginia's local school systems. Over the years, I've taught high school US History and provided tutoring and teaching services in social sciences and English to students aged two to 68. I firmly believe that anyone can learn with the right guidance and support.

I am driven by a passion for not only learning but also spreading knowledge. I advocate for teaching critical thinking and life skills through core subjects, moving beyond mere test preparation. I encourage open discussions about historical events, exploring how we can learn from the past to create a better future.

Beyond the classroom, I bring a wealth of diverse experiences. An interesting fact about me is that I'm ambidextrous, which means I can write and do everything with both hands! I love animals, reading, hiking, swimming, and watching documentaries on history and nature.

Join me on this exciting journey of discovery and growth. Let's unlock the doors to knowledge and pave the way for a brighter tomorrow together!
