Are you ready to dive into the fascinating world of the human body? 🌟 This 8-week interactive course (join anytime!) will take learners on an exciting journey to discover how their body works. From understanding the skeleton that supports us 🦴 to the brain that controls everything we do 🧠, each session will inspire curiosity and wonder about the incredible systems that keep us alive and thriving. Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities 🧪, and fun experiments, students will gain a deeper understanding of the body as a "system of systems." We'll explore how these systems work together to keep us healthy, moving, and growing. Whether it’s building a mini skeleton, creating a lung model, or role-playing as immune defenders 🛡️, learners will have the opportunity to apply what they learn in creative and meaningful ways. Perfect for curious minds aged 7-11, this class encourages young scientists 👩🔬👨🔬 to ask questions, make observations, and develop a love for understanding their own amazing bodies! By the end of this course, learners will: -Understand the Human Body as a System: Grasp how individual body systems (skeletal, muscular, circulatory, etc.) work both independently and together to keep us alive. 🧍♀️🧍♂️ -Develop Scientific Knowledge: Identify key organs and functions of major systems like the heart ❤️, brain 🧠, lungs, and digestive tract 🍎. -Engage in Hands-On Learning: Participate in activities and experiments to visualize and apply what they learn. 🧪 -Build Health Awareness: Recognize the importance of systems like the immune system 🛡️ in protecting the body and promoting well-being. -Foster Curiosity: Ask questions, share discoveries, and explore the human body in a fun and interactive setting. ✨ What to Expect: -Interactive Lessons: Each class includes visual aids, discussions, and demonstrations to keep learners engaged. 💻📖 -Hands-On Projects: Activities like building a lung model, testing reflexes, and creating body system diagrams will enhance understanding. 🔧🎨 -Supportive Environment: Learners are encouraged to share their ideas, ask questions, and connect with their peers in a positive atmosphere. 💬🤝 -Accessible Materials: All activities use common household items, making participation easy and fun. 🏠🧴 Schedule: JOIN ANY WEEK! Week of 1/6: The Human Body Overview of the body as a system of systems. How systems work together to keep us alive and healthy. Week of 1/13: The Skeletal System Structure and function of bones. Importance of the skeleton for movement and protection. Week of 1/20: The Muscular System How muscles work with bones to help us move. Types of muscles: smooth, skeletal, and cardiac. Week of 1/27: The Circulatory System The heart, blood vessels, and blood. How the circulatory system delivers oxygen and nutrients. Week of 2/3: The Respiratory System How we breathe and how oxygen gets into our blood. The role of lungs and the diaphragm. Week of 2/10: The Digestive System The journey of food through the body. Key organs like the stomach, intestines, and liver. Week of 2/17: The Nervous System How the brain and nerves control the body. Introduction to the central and peripheral nervous systems. Week of 2/24: The Immune System How the body fights off germs and stays healthy. The role of white blood cells and lymph nodes. Then the class will cycle back to Week 1- Enroll in ANY week and stay for 8 weeks! The class is specifically designed to make sense at any entry point, and progress for 8 weeks. Miss Kellie: Bachelor’s in Kinesiology Master’s degrees in both Physical Education and Instructional Design and Technology 6 years as a health teacher and 8 years as a math and science teacher Kellie creates a positive environment that empowers students to develop healthy habits and an understanding of how the body works. As an Adjunct Professor, she also teaches online health and fitness courses, sharing her expertise with all ages. "I believe health education is the foundation of a balanced and fulfilling life." 🧠💪
