A Geologist's Guide: Fun Ways to Learn and Understand the Periodic Table

In this 4-week course, learners will discover what the periodic table is, how it is used, and why the elements are important through games and activities. Students will work through fun games or activities independently and as a collaborative team to learn the elements on the periodic table and to identify where they are found in everyday life. This is not your average chemistry class! This is an interactive event for each class meeting. Our course will begin with an instruction on what the periodic table is and how to read it in the first lesson. The next seven lessons will be activity and game oriented. In the eighth lesson, learners will experience an escape room to see how much they have mastered. Don't get left behind! You'll have to quickly solve your way out of the course by answering all of the questions correctly! 

Our lessons will be presented in Nearpod and I will screen share so that learners do not have to log in. Resources will be provided for the activities and games on the Sunday before each lesson so that learners have time to print if required. This class meets twice weekly.

Week of April 4: Reading the Periodic Table and Why It Is Important/ Periodic Table Flip Books and Bingo
Week of April 11: Modeling the Elements/ Elemental Scavenger Hunt
Week of April 18: Let's Play Elemental Clue
Week of April 25: Escape the Element Escape Room


Learners will need the following supplies during the course:
1. Index Cards or Pocket Sized Spiral Notebook for the Elements
2. Package of pipe cleaners (12 to 24) 
3. Pony beads in different colors
4. Pom Poms
5. Colored pens or markers
