Description
Class Experience
Students will learn to use American Sign Language to Communicate, as well as have an introduction into Deaf Culture. In the first few weeks they will learn the alphabet, and counting for beginners. They will be taught formal and informal introductions, greetings, feelings, how to ask questions and to communicate without using their voice. Students will work on both expressive ad receptive skills with signing as well as fingerspelling. They will also learn how to sign their favorite songs. ...
I have been signing for the past 10 years, acquired my Bachelor or Arts in ASL Linguistics with a focus in Deaf Education. I have my SLI Interpreting Certification That I got by taking and passing the ESSE Interpreting Exam. I have lived with Deaf people and go to Deaf Events. A lot of my friends are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Also I have been teaching ASL 1-4 at Futures Academy for the past four years and am the Chairman of ASL Club. I have been Interpreting for the past seven years.
The materials needed for this course are, access to internet/wifi, a computer, a webcam, and access to the school platform.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
All content is school appropriate
