This class will be focused around a mystery. It will include most of the central elements that make a D and D adventure fun- character creation, magic, action, mystery, unpredictable bad guys, fun items, and object to discover and interactive fun. While they are immersed in the adventure the players will be learning collaboration, team building, critical thinking, role-playing, cooperative learning, and problem solving. The adventure classes will be 90 minutes long and will take place in a 5E based custom world with additional fun homebrew elements, such as airship and portal travel thrown in as well. The Fifth Edition rules will form the basis of character creation, and game play, but I will use a more streamlined approach to maximize the fun and time in play for the adventurers in my games. Adventurers will begin with 4th level characters, but can expect to advance pretty rapidly based on the characteristics of the adventure. Most character classes are accepted, particularly if pre-approved. About half of our initial session will be character assessment, orientation on the world they will play in and having the players get to know each other. Once the players solve the initial mystery their group can continue on in adventures to follow. I am a professional educator by profession, and an experienced gamemaster who has created hundreds of adventures in many different RPG genres. My adventures always feature immersive, imaginative and highly interactive story telling with a focus on maximizing the players’ involvement in the action of the game. The players need not be extremely experiences to have fun and make new friends even as they sharpen their skills, many of which can carry over to the real world.
Learning Goals
While they are immersed in the adventure the players will be learning collaboration, team building, critical thinking, role-playing, cooperative learning, and problem solving. Many of these skills they will be able to carry over to the real world.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Jeff Battle. I am a professional teacher and a life long learner!
I teach academic classes for middle school and high school in science and social studies on all topics. I also teach classes on the mechanics for learners- how to take notes that work for you, how to write, from paragraphs to essays to research papers.
I also teach really fun non-academic classes on a wide variety of topics from how to be a better dungeon master, writing science fictions and fantasy stories, fishing, photography and more.
I have been a teacher for more than 28 years, and have degrees in archaeology, anthropology, and education focusing in science and social studies. I have taught from middle school through college level.
I believe that learning has to be fun for it to have a real impact on the person who is learning...and me. I am the teacher students hope they get, not because I am easy on them, far from it, but because they know in my classes they are both going tot learn a lot and have fun while they are doing it. I love the a-ha moment when a student makes the connection and the knowledge we are working with truly becomes theirs.
I love puns, writing, fantasy and science fiction and I was once, no kidding, a Captain in Starfleet.
