Do you like to read poetry? Do you like to draw? Well then this is the art club for you. Welcome to our ongoing seasonal drawing club for poetry lovers and artists alike. Each week we will begin with a poem, discuss a literary tool that the poet used and then we will make art based off of what was read. This is a student driven social club that rotates annually and is a wonderful way to get students interested in writing by using an artistic twist. The first half of class will begin with an ice breaker and a poem. Next, we will focus on one literary aspect the poem uses and study it's meaning. Then, we will play a game to give us an opportunity to demonstrate our understanding and then we will close the class with art time and games. This class is made up of a mixture of reading, analyzing and creating. The topics we will cover will vary based on what month the class takes place. For the following month we will be studying the topics listed below. ****STUDENTS GET TO CHOOSE THE COLORING UTENSIL OF THEIR CHOICE & WHAT TO DRAW**** --JANUARY-- Week 1 Let's Draw a Snowy City Inspired by Walter De La Mare's "Snow" Week 2 Let's Draw a Snowy Farm Inspired by Miguel de Unamuno's "The Snowfall Is So Silent" Week 3 Let's Draw a Snowman Inspired by Wallace Stevens' "The Snowman" Week 4 Let's Draw Winter Activities Inspired by Walter De La Mare's "Winter" --FEBRUARY-- Week 1 Let's Draw Childhood Treasures Inspired by Rosanna Leprohon's "A Child's Treasures" Week 1 Let's Draw Our Favorite Pictures Inspired by James Barron Hope's "Sweet Memories" Week 2 Let's Draw Valuable Valentines Inspired by Eugene Field's "A Valentine" Week 3 Let's Draw Our Favorite Flowers Inspired by John Clare's "A Valentine" --MARCH-- Week 1 Let's Draw a Magical Brook Inspired by John Clare's "A Spring Morning" Week 2 Let's Draw Spring Things Inspired by John Clare's "On A Lane In Spring" Week 3 Let's Draw a Shamrock" Inspired by Ella Higginson's "A Four-Leaf Clover" Week 4 Let's Draw a Bird Inspired by Emily Miller's "The Bluebird Song" --APRIL-- TO BE DETERMINED --MAY-- TO BE DETERMINED --JUNE-- TO BE DETERMINED --JULY-- TO BE DETERMINED --AUGUST-- TO BE DETERMINED --SEPTEMBER-- TO BE DETRMINED ---OCTOBER--- Week 1 Let's Draw a Raven Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" Week 2 Let's Draw a Haunted Landscape Inspired by Eugene Field's "The Night Wind" Week 3 Let's Draw Haunted Houses Inspired by William Longfellow "Haunted Houses" Week 4 Let's Draw a Graveyard Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's "Elenore" --NOVEMBER--- ***NO CLASS ON THANKSGIVING*** Week 1 Let's Draw Fall Animals Inspired by by William Howitt's "Migration of the Grey Squirrel" Week 2 Let's Draw Autumn Leaves Inspired by John Irwin's "Autumn Song" Week 3 Let's Draw A Pumpkin Inspired by James Whitcomb Riley's " When the Frost is on the Punkin" Week 4 Let's Draw a Cornucopia Inpsired by John Jay Chapman's "Harvest" --DECEMBER-- **NO CLASS ON 12/24-12/25*** Week 1 Let's Draw Snowflakes Inspired by Fannie Sherrick's "Snow-Flakes" Week 2 Let's Draw Snow Birds Inspired by Frank James' "Snow-Buntings" Week 3 Let's Draw a Sleigh Ride Inspired by Robert Lee Frost's "Stopping By Woods On a Snowy Evening" Week 4 Let's Draw Snow Scenes Inspired by by John Clare's "Snow Storm" Week 5 Let Draw Winter Fairies Inspired by by Walter De La Mare's "The Fairy In Winter"
