In this class, we will learn about Charles Dickens, understand A Christmas Carol and learn to start writing and coming up with ideas to make a new Christmas Carol. We will find out what has made this writer stand out and what we can learn from how this book has been written. (Students do not have to read this book prior to this class, nor do they have to read this book) Week 1. Charles Dickens: who was he? We will take a look at Charles Dickens and his life. Week 2. Why write a book about Christmas? We will discuss why A Christmas Carol perhaps was written in the way it was and why this book stands out above other books. Week 3. Why was Scrooge the main character? Why not Tiny Tim? We will talk about the main characters and talk about their role. Week 4. Why three ghosts? What characters would you have visiting Scrooge? We will talk about the three ghosts and come up with new characters that could come and visit Scrooge. Can we change the characters and have a new plot, and could that have the same impact today as in the past when Charles Dickens wrote the book? We will brainstorm and come up with a new Christmas Carol. *To all students and parents: Although I give homework, please do not feel pressured that you have to do it. The biggest thing that I want you to take from this class is to have fun. *Also you can request a new time if you need a different time slot. *Classes are subject to change

Teacher expertise and credentials
I love history and have written amazing essays about different time periods. I am from England, and my mum was brought up during WWII. To be honest, history is ingrained in me. The book A Christmas Carol is one of my all-time favorite books and I am going to share that love with your students. We will explore this classic and see how this amazing book still lives on today. It's a book that I will help your children to see beyond just a character but how it impacted lives.
