In this four week course we will dive into the life of a chicken and learn all about it's body, food, predators, interesting facts, the difference between hens and roosters, and benefits to home raising.
Class experience
In this course we will learn all about chickens! In each class we will discover new information on how chickens are special birds. Being a chicken owner myself, we may even be able to "meet" a chicken from my flock. Students will be engaged in a multitude of learning facets including group discussion, individual think time and sharing, sketching, writing, hands on creation of ideas, visual content, experiments and viewing scientific video clips. Maria Ramirez is a Massachusetts licensed Elementary Teacher who has been teaching children for over a decade in public, private, charter, and homeschool settings including after school and summer programs. The majority of her teaching has taken place in first and second grade classrooms. She guides children's natural curiosities to explore, investigate, create, problem solve, collaborate, and take risks in a safe and encouraging environment.
There will be various hand outs that will need to be printed prior to specific lessons. Students will need pencils, coloring materials, and paper. There may be additional materials needed if students partake in the hands on engineering activities that will be used to extend the learning outside of the classroom for homework. These materials will include glue, tape, construction paper, cardboard etc.
