In the case of this class I am teaching your student accountability, planning, and follow through and coaching them through the process. Which skill they choose to develop during this challenge is up to them somewhat. The mini lessons of week one will guide them through the process of choosing a project they can be successful in and with my guidance once their proposal is turned in, I will coach them into setting it up in a proper format for a successful measured 50 day challenge. My goal is to help students monetize themselves and their skills through growth, creativity, and accountability. For example, my first project was a 100 day challenge in which I created a bookmark each day, the goal of my challenge was to get better at drawing flowers, but instead of just learning a new flower each day I added the bookmark element allowing my 100 finished bookmarks to be combined into a book which is now sold on Amazon. My bookmarks also make great gifts and being bookmarks allows me to use them on a regular basis while reading.
Art and Creativity are what get me through the day. The joy that creating provides is something that should be shared and explored by all! I have been using 100 day projects in my life this year and they have brought me so much joy and growth that I am excited to share it with students on Outschool. Please see the class video for full details. I have been teaching in one aspect or another all my life, from helping in Sunday School classrooms as a teen to teaching my own classrooms at 18. I was a lead teacher for a Preschool prior to having my own family. Once I had children, I was organizing local families into craft clubs and field trips. It was only natural that we chose to homeschool. When I struggled to find a curriculum that would work well with my very hands on son and my visual daughter, I set out to create my own. This curriculum is still on the market 18 years later and being used in homeschools and classrooms across the world. I believe all learning styles can be taught in the same space in most cases and you will find that 99% of my classes are project based for the reason. Putting the learning into the hands of the students helps retention and instills a love of learning. I teach for enjoyment and want my students to also enjoying the learning process, you will not find me teaching to a test or requesting memorization of facts. I will find fun and creative ways to get kids learning without them even realizing it most of them time. Some may call it arts and crafts, but I guarantee you your students will love it and they will learn and more importantly retain the information being taught. This is a highly interactive class. Students will be completing a task daily and posting/responding to those tasks daily in the classroom. That means each student should be posting a minimum of 56 times during this 8 week class. This should not be seen as another thing on the to-do list but as an investment in ourselves. Students are learning accountability to oneself, they are learning a skill they chose and wished to be better at, they are seeing the fruits of their labor as they complete this challenge with 50 new pieces of art or other items based on their chosen challenge. Each project chosen will be different and timing required will vary but can easily be done within 30 minutes a day. Think of it as 30 minutes of self-care for our creative selves.
This list will really depend on the project the student chooses to pursue. Availability of supplies is a step in the choosing process. Most projects will require the basic art supplies. A Ruler Pencil Eraser
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I ask students to film a quick video to share with their challenge participants a briefing of their 50 day project. This can be a quick time lapse video of their art projects from the challenge. A what worked/what didn’t work, what they liked/didn’t like type video or anything that shows their growth from start to finish. It doesn’t need to be anything lengthy just a 2 minute video sharing their journey.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
This class is different then many other classes so please be sure to read through all the information to make sure it is the right fit for your student. Students will be encouraged to talk through their project with you as well, helping to make sure they have the time and resources to succeed. Dependant on the project chosen students may need access to other websites. Parents please ensure the proper safety measures are in place for internet usage.
Create, Inspire, Repeat! We all have an inner artist, you just have to look sometimes.
