The creative process has been around for as long as humans have. But it's only been observed scientifically for 100 years! "The Art of Thought" by Graham Wallas got it all started in 1926 when he formulated one of the first cohesive models of the creative process. Wallas noted a four-stage process but a fifth stage (implementation) has been added. Students will learn the definition of each of the following stages paired with historical examples: Preparation Incubation Illumination Evaluation Implementation In addition, we will discuss the difference between being a "problem finder" vs. being a "problem solver." I teach using a combination of visuals and slide shows while leaving plenty of time for positive interaction and questions. No prior experience is needed to take this class. Students will enjoy the quirky historical facts. Most of all, I hope they walk away with some lessons to help them invent something amazing someday!
