This course is a beginning ballet class for the ages of 9-13. At least one year of beginning ballet is required. We will cover the basic ballet steps and vocabulary and then continue to work towards the next level. The way the class will be structured is 1) Vocabulary and Ballet Etiquette, 2) Performing Ballet barre exercises i.e plie, tendu and degage and finally 3) Reviewing of the lesson and a cool down. I will be recommending books that the student can study from as well as demonstrating all of the exercises. The students will not only have a chance to learn visually and physically but mentally as well. I am a very open-minded and flexible teacher. I know that not every student learns the same way, so I encourage an open line of communication during and after classes. I encourage students to ask questions and also answer them. If the dancers don't understand the basics or the exercises then I want them to feel comfortable enough to speak up. Since dance is a hands-on subject, I will be making sure that the students and I have discussions and show them video clips of different ballets and ballet dancers. Week 1& 2 (April 4- 11th)- The focus will be turns (i.e pirouettes, pique turns...) Week 3& 4 (April 18- 25th) Petit Allegro (small jumps)- jetes, assembles, glissade... Week 5& 6 (May 2nd- 9th)- Grand Allegro (big leaps)- Grand jetes, saute de chats...
Learning Goals
The students will take the basic knowledge they learned in their beginning classes and learn more complicated steps.

Parental Guidance
Ballet requires an ample amount of workout space. Make sure that there is enough room for the students to dance and that the area is safe from hazardous materials that they can step on or run into. Please check that the floor is not slick as well. Students will need to make sure that they are warmed up and have a water bottle with them. Since this is a physical course, parents monitor their children for them to stay safe. Injury is possible in this course just like any other sport, pulled muscles and ankle injuries are the main ones to be aware of.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone my name is Gardenia Gilbert. I teach several different styles of dance i.e ballet, contemporary, and introduction to dance, along with fitness classes. I am a professional dancer that has been working in this field since graduating with a B.S in dance in 2015. I believe that everyone can benefit from moving their bodies. Not everyone has to be an experienced dancer or athlete to want to move their bodies.
Some of the best lessons I’ve learned were from ballet classes, that I’m still applying on my current journey in life. The lessons consist of discipline, passion, and confidence in who I am. I want my students to have fun and use whatever knowledge they gain in class on their journey.
As a special treat, some fun facts about me are that I'm currently learning French and I still love taking dance classes. You are never too old or experienced to still be considered a student.
*If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. I will respond within the 24hr to 48hr time frame.
