For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well actually, quite the opposite..... In this class, learners will read 3-4 chapters of Fablehaven by Brandon Mull each week. In class, we will discuss what we read. I will guide them through some comprehension discussion to make sure everyone is understanding the reading and learners will also have time to discuss what they liked, didn't like, and what they think is coming up. We will also do a fun activity related to that week's reading. We will do a variety of things such as crafts, writing, drawing, and games. Here is our schedule: Week 1: Collecting Clues - escape room to review 4-6 grade ELA skills After class: Read chapters 1-3 Week 2: Create your own illustration After Class: Read chapters 4-6 Week 3: Fantasy Lexicon After class: Read chapters 7-9 Week 4: Making Fairy Houses (please see supply list) After class: Read chapters 10-12 Week 5: Scavenger Hunt After class: Read chapters 13-15 Week 6: Pictionary After class: Read chapters 16-19 Week 7: Write your own fantasy short story

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Brigham Young University
Hello! My name is Mrs. Clarissa. I am a mom of 5, a bookworm, and a certified, experienced in-person and online teacher. I believe in learning through fun and play! I love seeing my students learn and grow as they discover new things on their own. I believe that the most important part of school is learning how to learn and learning to love learning! Once those two goals are met, students can learn anything they want.
I have taught online classes for 6 years and have learned how to engage students virtually. It has been a wonderful experience and I love the opportunity to reach out to kids from all over the world and learn from each other!
I earned a degree in elementary education from Brigham Young University in 2009. My life has been dedicated to helping kids learn and grow.
I also LOVE books! There are bookcases in every room of my house and I wish I had more. I enjoy reading fantasy books and discussing them with my kids and my husband. We all especially love Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. I also enjoy reading with my littles. Our favorites are Elephant and Piggie and Mother Bruce.
