Class Experience

What time is it? It's time for lunch!

Read a book, have a bite and build with some bricks (Legos)! Students can enjoy eating their meals while listening to a high interest story, read by a certified reading specialist.

They will then brainstorm and share ideas together and use their own brick collection from home to create a masterpiece of their choosing.

To wrap up, we'll have a show-and-tell of their creations. Socialization will definitely be encouraged throughout this class.

In January, we'll read the following titles:

Monkey on the Run by Leo Timmers
The Mixed-Up Truck by Stephen Savage
Small Walt and Mo the Tow by Elizabeth Verdick and Marc Rosenthal
If I Built a Car by Chris Van Dusen

In February, the following books will be featured:
Jabari Tries by Gaia Cornwall
Mary Had a Little Lab by Sue Fliess
Gus's Garage by Leo Timmers
Sadie Sprocket Builds a Rocket by Sue Fliess

In March, we'll read the following titles:
What About Moose? by Book by Corey Rosen Schwartz and Rebecca J. Gomez
How to Trap a Leprechaun by Sue Fliess
The Little Leprechaun Who Loved Yellow! by Sally Huss
When Spring Comes by Kevin Henkey
The Great Eggscape! by Jory John and Pete Oswald

See you for lunch!

Welcome!
I am passionate about instilling a love of reading in children through sharing engaging, high interest texts. The classes I teach are literacy based, and I also offer reading assessments to help parents have a better understanding of their child's reading level and strategies to support them.
I have ten years teaching experience at the elementary level and my Masters in Reading Education from UVA and am certified to teach readers from K-12. I ran the CETA (Changing Education through the Arts) program by the Kennedy Center, at my school and find great value in arts integration.
I believe children should feel that they are valued members of a class in order to do their best learning. Classes should be engaging, interactive and social, especially in a virtual format.
I have two little guys at home and we love to bake, go on nature walks, and we just learned about Geocaching! Oh, and I'm a Penn Stater at heart- We Are!
