Summer-Themed Spanish Camp for Beginners
L. Farrell
In this 6-week course, students will meet 2x per week to learn, discuss and explore Spanish language and culture. Students will walk away with new vocabulary, greetings/real world phrases, and fun facts about Spanish-speaking countries.
Class experience
I have been teaching elementary-level foreign languages for the past 7 years at my school. This past school year, I created a World Language Enrichment Program where I teach Spanish, Italian and French to students in grades K-5. Language is a beautiful tool that helps us see the world through a new lens. Let's expand our minds together! This course will be taught in an extremely upbeat, positive and nurturing manner. My teaching style is highly encouraging, building upon my students'...
Every single lesson will include review from the previous lesson, useful vocabulary, real-world grammar (speaking in full sentences using the daily target verb), a cultural component and a game. This is an "ongoing class". Students can join at any time but will get the most out of their learning by attending long term. Each week will focus on specific set skills and will include a variety of interactive activities that will keep students engaged. Throughout our 12 sessions, students will learn the following: Week 1 Day 1: Introductory Greetings [My name is ____. What's your name?] Day 2: Alphabet [students will learn the alphabet through song] Week 2 Day 3: Family Members [the verb "to have"] Day 4: Animals [there is/there are] Week 3 Day 5: Weather [focus on words: today/tomorrow/yesterday] Day 6: Clothing [the verb "to wear"] Week 4 Day 7: Food [the verbs "to eat" and "to drink"] Day 8: Days the Week [students will learn the days of the week through song] Week 5 Day 9: Months of the Year/Birthdays [students will learn the months of the year through song] Day 10: Hobbies [verb "to like"] Week 6 Day 11: Sports [verb "to do"] Day 12: Last Day/Culmination Project
Students will need a notebook or sheets of paper/folder to create a picture dictionary as well as have an organized place to store and study vocabulary.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be able to be fully independent in this course.
