What's included

40 live meetings
40 in-class hours
Homework
2-4 hours per week. IN-CLASS ASSIGNMENTS: During each class, learners complete interactive questions included in the lesson using Zoom's Chat Feature or verbally. Learners receive a participation grade for completing these questions. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE: After each lesson, a worksheet that aligns with each lesson for independent practice. Depending on the number of lessons, there are 3 worksheets each week. The purpose of these worksheets is to inform my teaching, provide detailed feedback to learners, and track learner progress. Independent Practice should take roughly 30 minutes to an hour after each lesson depending on the learner's current skill level and understanding of each topic. Independent Practice Worksheets are due at the end of the day on Thursday. Learners are encouraged to work on them on the day they are assigned to avoid falling behind.
Assessment
PARTICIPATION: During each lesson, learners complete interactive questions throughout the class. Learners receive a participation grade for each class they contribute to. Participation will count as 25% of the overall class grade. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE: Each Worksheet will also be manually graded so that the appropriate amount of feedback can be given. These are graded based on completion and accuracy. Independent Practice will count as 75% of the overall grade.
Grading
GRADES: Grades will be released to the learners via private message. At the end of each 2-week period, a percentage and a letter grade will also be released to the learners via private message. Grades are considered private information and will not be posted in the classroom or accessible by other learners. Learners are encouraged to keep their grades private. GRADING SCALE: To comply with the different grading standards nationwide, the following grading scale will be used: 100% - 90% A (5/5) 89% - 80% B (4/5) 79% - 70% C (3/5) 69% - 60% D (2/5) 59% - 20% F (1/5) GPA Weights A 4.00 B 3.00 C 2.00 D 1.00 F 0.00 As long as the learner participates and shows improvement, it is impossible to fail this class. If a grade is not required for your learner, please notify me ahead of time. Your learner will still receive feedback but a grade will not be sent to them. A grade will, however, be recorded in the event one is needed in the future. Learners who pass this class will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the 8th Week of class.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Beginner - Intermediate Level
SUMMARY: This 10-Week Multi-Day class includes concepts from a full year of Algebra 1 math complete with textbook definitions, guided examples during class, and worksheets for independent practice. This is perfect for 9th-Grade Learners who want to review Algebra 1 before entering the 10th grade; 8th-Grade learners who want a sneak peek of Algebra 1; and homeschool learners who want to cross 9th-Grade Math off their checklist.

LESSONS: This class is designed to cover twelve units in 8 weeks. Together we work through three of these topics a class. Learners interact with me and their classmates while we complete guided examples. After each class, learners complete a short worksheet for independent practice.

LEARNER EXPECTATIONS: Learners will attend each class, take notes, and interact with me as we complete each topic. At the end of class, I will allow learners to ask questions. At the end of each unit, I will post a learner-driven Q&A document. This document guarantees every question receives a proper answer. Finally, learners will complete each assigned independent practice to the best of their ability by utilizing their notes, my notes, and the class recordings.

SCHEDULE: There are a maximum of 4 lessons a week, covering an average of 8 topics, with time set aside each Monday for learners to ask questions and review the previous week's homework. The syllabus contains a detailed schedule of the class.

THIRD-PARTY APPLICATIONS: PDF files are shared in the classroom after every lesson. I recommend learners access these class notes to assist them in completing their notes and the independent practice. These do not collect learners' private information. I ask the learner for their first name on assignments for grading and feedback purposes. Desmos is a free, online graphing calculator that may be used instead of a physical graphing calculator. EMERGENCIES: Despite our best efforts, emergencies happen and can result in changes to the class schedule. I always plan to have my classes as scheduled. In the event that I have an emergency (loss of power/internet), I ask that learners log into the Zoom meeting and remain in the waiting room for 10 minutes so that Outschool can mark their attendance. There is a one-week gap between my classes to add make-up sessions during the same time. In the event that your learner cannot attend a class, please reach out so I can adjust the assignments' due dates. Recordings of the meetings will be shared with the classroom. Learners are expected to watch the video lessons for the classes they miss and complete a Knowledge Check for their participation points.
