US Grade 9
This course covers 9th Grade Common Core Algebra Standards and is ideal for students age 14-16. Students will be provided with a solid foundation in the following Algebra 1 concepts. -Seeing structure in expressions -Interpret the structure of expressions -Write expressions in equivalent forms to solve problems -Arithmetic with Polynomials and Rational Functions -Perform arithmetic operations on polynomials -Understand the relationship between zeros and factors of polynomials -Use polynomial identities to solve problems -Rewrite rational functions -Creating Equations -Create equations that describe numbers or relationships -Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities -Understand solving equations as a process of reasoning and explain the reasoning -Solve equations and inequalities in one variable -Solve systems of equations -Represent and solve equations and inequalities graphically Learners will also be taught the following mathematical practices: -Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. -Reason abstractly and quantitatively. -Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. -Model with mathematics. -Use appropriate tools strategically. -Attend to precision. -Look for and make use of structure. -Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. My teaching style uses guided notes, manipulatives, and games. I also use real-world examples with every topic and demonstrate how to successfully complete word problems pertaining to the topic. When teaching a lesson I will first dissect and demonstrate the new skill. Students will then practice the skill with me (guided practice) and then the students will demonstrate the new skill on their own (independent practice). All students will be asked to demonstrate their retention of the new information so participation is required for live classes. Prior knowledge requirement: basic understanding of elementary math operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), order of operations, and all pre-algebra skills. The class will meet live 4 times per week. During live meetings, students will participate in lectures and small group assignments.
Learning Goals
Students will gain a deep understanding of 9th-grade common core algebra standards.
