8th Grade Math (Full Course- Session 1 of 4)
In section 1 of this 4 part class, students will learn to rewrite and solve equations, solve equations by graphing, solve for slope, and graph linear equations using slope-intercept form and standard form.

This course is designed to go through all of the 8th Grade Common Core Math Standards in a year. To make it easier on parents, I have divided the course into 4 sections. This is section 1 of 4. In this full year class, students will learn the following: The Number System- Approximate Real Numbers; Perform Real Number Operations Expressions and Equations- Use Radicals and Integer Exponents; Connect Proportional Relationships and Lines; Solve Systems of Equations Functions- Define, Evaluate, and Compare Functions; Model Relationships Geometry- Understand Similarity; Apply the Pythagorean Theorem; Apply Volume Formulas Statistics and Probability- Analyze Bivariate Formulas In most classes, 1 sheet of homework will be assigned. We will review the homework the first 10-15 minutes of class with an open discussion. We will then move into the new topic where I will have a lecture over the new material. Students are welcome to ask questions throughout the lesson by raising their hand. Some classes will have games that we will play to reinforce what we have learned. There will be quizzes throughout the session. I will grade these so that you can see the progress that your child is making. Topics covered this session: -Solving simple equations -Multi-Step equations -Solving equations with variables on both sides -Rewriting equations and formulas -Converting units of measure -Graphing linear equations -Slope of a line -Triangles and Slope -Graphing linear equations in slope-intercept form -Graphing linear equations in standard form -Systems of linear equations -Special systems of linear equations -Solving equations by graphing
Learning Goals
In this session, students will be able to connect proportional relationships and lines. Students will also be able to solve systems of equations.
