Description
Class Experience
The ongoing club dates will take place once a week. The topics are not connected, so students may come in and join at any time during the year or skip a week. This reviews common standardized math topics, remediation, extra practice, and home learning help. This is not a live class. Students may come in with any math home learning topic and receive assistance on whatever math topic he/she needs. Below are tentative topics to cover in the remediation of general curriculum pacing guides. They...
Students will actively participate in effortful learning both individually and collectively. Students will demonstrate an understanding of mathematics by representing problems in multiple ways. Students will complete tasks with mathematical fluency. Students will engage in discussions that reflect on the mathematical thinking of self and others. Students will use patterns and structure to help them understand and connect mathematical concepts. Students will assess the reasonableness of solutions. Students will apply mathematics to real-world solutions.
I have taught middle school mathematics in the public school system for about 4 years. I am certified to teach in the state of Florida. I have taught 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade mathematics to special education students on a general education curriculum and following the standard pacing guide and mathematics to middle school students with severe cognitive disabilities in a self-contained classroom and other special education settings. In addition, Google slides, Google Forms, Youtube, IXL, Khan Academy, and Kahoot will all be used for in-classroom learning, content review, and participation during the class sessions. These educational technologies are not going to be assigned outside of class.
Students will not have home learning, but rather will receive Mathematics HL help during math club. If parents desire home learning activities, follow up assignments may be given by the teacher.
A computer, tablet or mobile device is required to access Study.com, Khan Academy and/or IXL to make a free account. The links or code will be provided by me. Also, I highly recommend students bring index cards, a sheet divider, a blank sheet of paper and a dry-erase marker.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Student learning is measured through formative assessments through an interactive educational technology called "Kahoot!"
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be asked to make an account with Study.com and use their/their parent's email address. This will never be sold to third parties or shared with anybody else except for the teacher. They will make a free account with me using this link https://study.com/join/classroom.html?code=slate-spider-6191. Once they make an account, they can complete assigned quizzes and watch videos with the teacher.
