8th Grade Math Camp
If your student will be starting 8th grade this class will teach them all the Math skills from beginning to end so that they are well prepared for their Math class.

When students learn 8th grade Math concepts, they not only need to learn them step by step but also need to implement what they learn through activities, worksheets, etc. Students will gain an understanding of what is needed to accurately complete their Math problems and gain a sense of knowledge of why the problems are done a certain way. In class we will be covering 8th grade Math concepts so that students will have a better understanding before starting their 8th grade Math classes. Below is a a rough outline that we will cover over the course of the class: week of August 29th-- topic/theme 1: Expressions - a numerical expression consists of numbers and one or more operations. activity - practice problems week of September 5th -- topic/theme 2: The Distributive Property -You can use the distributive property to find the product of a number and a sum or the product of a number and a difference. activity - practice problems week of September 12th -- topic/theme 3: Positive exponents - A power is a special kind of product. A positive exponent means repeated multiplication. activity - practice problems week of September 19th -- topic/theme 4: negative exponents - A negative exponent means repeated division. activity - practice problems

Work with radicals and integer exponents.
Understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.
Analyze and solve linear equations and pairs of simultaneous linear equations.

Understand congruence and similarity using physical models, transparencies, or geometry software.
Understand and apply the Pythagorean Theorem.

Investigate patterns of association in bivariate data.

Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
