This Q1 course is what your child needs to master skills learned through part of 8th grade math. This course can be used as a supplement or on its own as a guide. Class will meet from Monday - Thursday. Students will begin each lesson with an introduction of the topic being discussed for that day. Students will always take notes on the topic being presented. Students will then work on guided practice examples as a class to address any misconceptions. Students will then work on independent practice examples to assess their learning. Students will have access to the worksheets and material being covered that week on the weekend prior to each week. Students are encouraged to keep a journal for notes and to print out the worksheets before the Monday of each week. Here is an overview of what topics will be covered during the 20 day course. Day 1. Order a set of Rational Numbers Day 2. Sets and Subsets Using Visual Representation Day 3. Approximation of Rational Numbers Day 4. Standard Decimal Notation to Scientific Notation Day 5. Standard Notation to Scientific Notation Day 6. Introduction to Slope as Unit Rate Day 7. Graphing Proportional Relationships Day 8. Using Right Triangles to Determine Slope Day 9. Using Tables or Graphs to Determine Slope and Y-Intercept Day 10. Identifying Functions in Ordered Pairs, Tables, Mappings and Graphs Day 11. y=mx+b in Tables, Graphs, and Word Problems Day 12. Distinguish between Proportional and Non-Proportional situations Day 13. Model and Solve One Variable equations with variables on both sides of Equations Day 14. Model and Solve One Variable two step equations with variables on both sides of Equations Day 15. Scale Factors Skill Day 16. Scale Factors Word Problems Day 17. Scale Factors in Graphs Day 18. Dilations with the Origin as the Center of Dilation Day 19. Dilations with the Origin as the Center of Dilation Day 20. Review or Catchup Day
