Class Experience

US Grade 8
This 8th Grade Literature Course focuses on Science Fiction and Fantasy Classics. The goal is to finish a book every 2-3 weeks. The catch up mechanism will be to drop an author's second book if we fall behind this pacing - for example, we would drop one of Jules Verne's (or H.G. Wells) if necessary.

The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain
Dracula by Bram Stoker
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
The Once and Future King by T.H. White
The Strange Case of Dr. Jeckyll and Mr Hyde and Other Tales of Terror by Robert Louis Stevenson
The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells

Many of these books go into great detail using the science of their day to bridge the fantastical. We will examine the underlying scientific theory and see if these books still qualify as literary classics.
