Hey y’all, Welcome all learners! I am so glad you stumbled upon my page and hope to see your smiling face soon! A quick insight, this is an ONGOING course, we will meet TWICE a week, meant to cover all 8th grade curriculum according to common state standards throughout 2 semesters! This is a great course for a homeschool learner, or someone who needs additional support on a certain topic. Anyone is welcome to join, you can stay for a few days, weeks or the entire curriculum or can hop in and out at anytime. if you do decide to join for a certain topic, in that case it is expected that there is prior knowledge or have received some sort of instruction related to the topic. My lessons are all similarly structured starting with the AGENDA at the very beginning of class, a quick WARM-UP meant to spiral back from the previous meeting, then I will use the (I do, we do, you do) teaching approach for the mini-lesson, followed by the closure, which will consist of an EXIT TICKET where I can get instant feedback on students level of mastery on the topic. I will provide NOTES for students to print out if they wish to do so to follow along with the lesson. There will be NO HOMEWORK as students are expected to do practice while in the meeting. This is not a graded class but if you want additional practice I can provide it. My Goal is for every student to feel SUCCESSFUL and CONFIDENT in Math with a teacher that allows them to make mistakes and learn from them. Note: Students taking this course must have a graphing calculator, as they will use it in the regular classroom Please Note: if you decide to join after the starting date (first meeting), and looking to stay around for the full curriculum but might have missed some meetings, it will be your responsibility to catch up on the topics missed. Feel free to reach out and join my private 1 on 1 meetings and I can help you catch up to be on the same page as the class. 8th grade Math Overview: Unit 1: Equations and inequalities Unit 2: Linear functions Unit 3: Data Analysis Unit 4: Transformational Geometry Unit 5: Measurement Unit 6: Financial Literacy First semester of 8th grade Math common core curriculum Week 1: September 6,8- Combining Like Terms, Distribution and Modeling and Solving multi step equations Week 2: September 13,15- Solving equations with VOBS/ Fractions and Decimals Week 3: September 20,22- Solving inequalities with a number line Week 4: September 27,29- VOBS real world scenarios equations and inequalities Week 5: October 4,6- Linear Functions, proportional vs non-proportional & Direct Variation Week 6: October 11,13- Introduction to Slope, slope formula given two points, Week 7: October 18,20- Y-intercept & find y-intercept given slope and 1 point Week 8: October 25,27- Slope intercept form given two points & Writing linear equations from scenarios Week 9: November 1,3- Simultaneous equations & Scatterplots Week 10: November 8,10- Trend Lines & MAD Week 11: November 15,17- Scientific Notation & Interior Angles Thanksgiving break **no classes** Week 12: November 29/December 1- Exterior Angles with variables Week 13: December 6, 8- Parallel and Transversal lines Week 14: December 13, 15- (Week off) Personal days off Week 15: December 20, 22- Translations and Reflections Week 16: December 27, 29- No classes** Holiday break Week 17: January 3, 5- Rotations Week 18: January 10, 12- Dilations Week 19: January 17, 19-Congruence and Orientation of all transformations Week 20: January 24, 26- Similar Figures and Proportions Week 21: January31, 2-Square roots and real numbers Week 22: February 7, 9- Pythagorean theorem Week 23: February 14, 16- Pythagorean theorem on a coordinate plane week 24: February 21, 23- volume cylinder and cone Week 25: February 28, 2 volume cone & sphere Week 26: March 7, 9- lateral surface area of triangular and rectangular prisms Spring break!
