This class will teach Xieyi, or freehand style which is marked by exaggerated forms and freehand brushwork. Students learn basic Mandarin words while exploring various brushwork and ink techniques of traditional Chinese brush painting.
Class experience
This is an 8-week series. Class meets once every week. This class provides training in the fundamentals of traditional Chinese brush painting, its principles, techniques, subject matters and styles. Xieyi (freehand) style will be demonstrated. Themes covered include landscapes, birds-and-flowers, fish, and others. Teacher Catherine is a dedicated artist and designer, currently pursuing her studies in Industrial design with a minor in Computation, Technology, & Culture at the Rhode Island School of Design. Her artistic interests span across multi-media mediums, including sculpture, jewelry making, ceramics, watercolor, charcoal, and pen art. By pushing the boundaries of both traditional and contemporary art, she continuously explores the conceptual aspects of storytelling through her work. She believes in the importance of self-expression and experimentation when it comes to teaching, promoting these principles to guide her students in their artistic journeys.
