US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner - Intermediate Level
8 lessons//8 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Color
Students will learn the techniques of color mixing and layering to create a harmonious and vibrant color scheme in a Flamingo Sunset painting.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Light
Students will use wet-on-wet blending techniques to create highlights, shading and contrast to give the illusion of light and shadow to a Rhino standing in the sunrise.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Composition
Students will experiment with the idea of unusual compositions, such as cropping a Parrot to create a focal point. They will use dabs of unmixed colors to create a sense of spontaneity and informality.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Texture
Students will paint a Green Python Snake using dry brush and scumbling techniques to create the interesting textures of reptile scales. They can build up their colors to create light and shadow effects.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Movement
Students will capture the fleeting and transient quality of animals using directional brushwork techniques, varying the thickness and direction of each stroke to create a sense of movement in a herd of Elephants.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Contrast
Students will use a well known impressionist technique called “impasto”. They will apply thick layers of paint, varying the size and shape of brushstrokes, contrasting light and dark values to create a sense of energy to an Antelope standing in the grass.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Atmosphere
Students will experiment using a limited color palette with light brushstrokes and blending of colors to create a dreamy painting of Giraffes at night.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Spontaneity
Students will use the broken-brush technique; they will break colors into smaller individual brushstrokes, which blend optically to create a more dynamic effect than traditional blended colors. They will paint a Cheetah on the grass.
Instructor will use a step by step approach to demonstrate acrylic painting techniques used to create celestial events and astronomy based environments and landscapes. Once they have a solid foundation and keep practicing, they will be able to design a multitude of unique acrylic paintings of their own.
