Week 1Lesson 1ColorStudents will learn the techniques of color mixing and layering to create a harmonious and vibrant color scheme in a Flamingo Sunset painting.Week 2Lesson 2LightStudents will use wet-on-wet blending techniques to create highlights, shading and contrast to give the illusion of light and shadow to a Rhino standing in the sunrise.Week 3Lesson 3CompositionStudents will experiment with the idea of unusual compositions, such as cropping a Parrot to create a focal point. They will use dabs of unmixed colors to create a sense of spontaneity and informality.Week 4Lesson 4TextureStudents will paint a Green Python Snake using dry brush and scumbling techniques to create the interesting textures of reptile scales. They can build up their colors to create light and shadow effects.Week 5Lesson 5MovementStudents will capture the fleeting and transient quality of animals using directional brushwork techniques, varying the thickness and direction of each stroke to create a sense of movement in a herd of Elephants.Week 6Lesson 6ContrastStudents will use a well known impressionist technique called “impasto”. They will apply thick layers of paint, varying the size and shape of brushstrokes, contrasting light and dark values to create a sense of energy to an Antelope standing in the grass.Week 7Lesson 7AtmosphereStudents will experiment using a limited color palette with light brushstrokes and blending of colors to create a dreamy painting of Giraffes at night.Week 8Lesson 8SpontaneityStudents will use the broken-brush technique; they will break colors into smaller individual brushstrokes, which blend optically to create a more dynamic effect than traditional blended colors. They will paint a Cheetah on the grass.
Instructor will use a step by step approach to demonstrate acrylic painting techniques used to create celestial events and astronomy based environments and landscapes. Once they have a solid foundation and keep practicing, they will be able to design a multitude of unique acrylic paintings of their own.
