US Grade 7
Welcome to seventh grade math! This series of 4 classes can be used as your student's sole math course for their year or as a supplement to another math class or curriculum. After this course, students will be ready for an Algebra 1 class. Students should have successfully completed a sixth grade math course. We will work through the Singapore Math Curriculum which is aligned with the Common Core math standards. The Singapore Math curriculum is a very rigorous curriculum that demands a deep understanding of concepts from students. Often, our book will dive deeper into a concept than is required for the grade level. Our students often test above grade level after a year with us. In addition to Singapore Math, this class will utilize other activities and strategies to teach math such as number talks to improve student number sense and games which will incorporate older material with what we are currently learning. My teaching style is "I do, we do, you do" through this method, I will guide student learning to meet each student where they are at and differentiate their learning. Our classes become small families. It is important for students to come to class ready to participate in their learning with their cameras on and limited distractions around them. Here is a sample schedule of our class. I will adapt this schedule to fit the needs of the learners in each section. Weeks 1 Welcome to Math! Factors and Multiples Week 2 Prime Factorization and Exponential Notation Week 3 Greatest Common Factor Least Common Multiple Week 4 Square Roots and Cube Roots Exam 1 Week 5 Negative Numbers and Absolute Value Week 6 Addition and Additive Inverse Subtraction of Integers Week 7 Multiplication and Division of Integers Rational Numbers Week 8 Rounding Numbers Exam 2
