Class Experience
CLASS DESCRIPTION Students in the 6th grade will focus on active engagement with numbers by concentrating on conceptual understanding, computational and procedural skills, and problem solving. The 6th grade, second semester, standards require students to study the following areas: .understanding and solving inequalities, perimeter, area. surface area, and volume of quadrilaterals and triangles, data distribution, dot plots, histograms, and box and whisker plots. Students will improve their skills in organization, mathematical concepts, and communication.
I am offering this class because some students that attempt Pre-Algebra 7th or 8th grade have experienced low confidence and need to be better prepared. I have been teaching mathematics for more that twenty-five years, and I believe that all students can succeed. Come join my class!
Students will be assigned 2 - 4 assignments and exit quizzes per week. It should take students 30 minutes per assignment to complete in a week's time.
2 files available upon enrollmentMaterials required: One 3-ring binder, lined paper, dividers, 2 or more pens (blue or black), 2 or more pencils, a ruler, and a pencil sharpener. To maintain an Excellent Organizational Habits, your child needs to bring all materials and assigned homework to class.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will have Exit Quizzes per lesson each week. Formative assessments will check for understanding weekly during the on-line meeting time. A summative assessment will be assigned at the end of a unit/chapter. Grading Scale: In each class students, will be graded based on the following criteria: ➢ Tests 60% ➢ Quizzes 30% ➢ Class work/ participation 5% ➢ Homework 10% ➢ A+ = 97 – 100 ➢ A = 96.9 - 93 ➢ A- = 92.9 - 90 ➢ B+ = 87 – 89.9 ➢ B = 86.9 - 83 ➢ B- = 82.9 - 80 ➢ C+ = 77 - 79.9 ➢ C = 76.9 – 73 ➢ C- = 72.9 - 70 ➢ D+ = 67 - 69.9 ➢ D = 66.9 - 63 ➢ D- = 62.9 - 60 ➢ F = 59.9 and below
