1-2 hours per week. Recommended (but optional) homework is assigned from the corresponding workbook. It can be purchased from singaporemath.com or I will upload sample pages from the workbook for practice.

Class Experience

US Grade 6
This is 6th grade 18 week curriculum that is aligned with US national standards for the first half of the school year. It would also be great as a review for 6th grade students who need a little extra help or advanced 4-5th grade students who want to be challenged. This is a traditional math class taught similar to class at school. Great for homeschoolers too! Contact me if you need a specific time scheduled and I can try to accommodate you!

Week 2: Order of Operations without Parentheses, Order of Operations with Parentheses
Week 3: Factors, Multiples, Properties of Multiplication, Mental Multiplication
Week 4: Properties of Division, Mental Division, 
Week 5: Multiplication of a Proper Fraction by a Whole Number, Multiplication of a Proper Fraction by a Fraction
Week 6: Multiplication of an Improper Fraction or a Mixed Number by a Whole Number
Week 7: Multiplication of an Improper Fraction or a Mixed Number by a Fraction, Division of a Whole Number by a Fraction
Week 8:  Division of a Fraction by a Whole Number, Division of a Fraction by a Fraction
Week 9:  Structure of Decimals, Adding and Subtracting Decimals
Week 10: Multiplier and Product, Multiplying Decimals
Week 11: Divisor and Quotient, Dividing Decimals, Metric Measurements and Decimals
Week 12: Negative Numbers, Comparing Positive and Negative Numbers
Week 13: The Number Line, Absolute Value
week 14: Ratios and Equivalent Ratios, Finding Ratio
week 15: Equivalent Ratios, Ratios and Fractions
Week 16: Average and Rate, Unit Rate, Speed
Week 17: Meaning of Percent, Percentage of a Quantity
Week 18: Cumulative Review

Paper and pencil are the only required materials. Slides will be taught in textbook fashion with interactive drill/practice features when possible. This class could have between 1-5 students, but can also be offered as a guaranteed 1:1 individual class if you prefer based on availability. Please contact me for the pricing and information if you would like a customized class created for you. In group settings, all learners will have many opportunities to practice each skill individually and corrections will be made to ensure comprehension. Participation will ensure understanding. In 1:1 settings, pacing is customized for your student ensuring understanding and retention of skills.

In addition to the live meetings an independent practice activity from the corresponding workbook will be posted after each meeting so that students can practice learned skills independently. These outside of class activities are optional but encouraged as part of the class experience. Daily math practice will ensure mastery of skills.

The progression of this class feeds into the next class which covers Book 6B of the Grade 6 Singapore Dimensions textbook. This class is guaranteed not to cancel due to low enrollment. Completion of Singapore Dimensions 6,7, and 8 cover PreAlgebra and Algebra 1 according to the publisher.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
The math curriculum will be shared on screen during class. You may purchase your own copy for the student to write in at https://www.singaporemath.com if you would like but it is not mandatory. The corresponding workbook is utilized if you would like to complete “homework”. It is optional and I don’t require it as some students take this course as a supplement to other math classes. I can help check it if you choose to complete these assignments.

We will use the Singapore Math Dimensions Math Textbook shared on-screen in class. If you would like to do extra practice, the Dimensions Math Workbook can be purchased from Singapore Math. If you would like me to provide an assessment and issue a grade, please contact me.
