6th Grade Math - Qtr. 3 (Flex Schedule)

This course will cover the third quarter of the 6th grade curriculum.  All other quarters will be offered, covering the whole curriculum from August through May.  This class will consist of lecture, hands-on activities, homework to practice, and quizzes to show mastery.

Week 1 -  Writing Equations in One Variable
Week 2 - Solving Equations Using Addition and Subtraction
Week 3 - Solving Equations Using Multiplication & Division
Week 4 - Writing Equations in Two Variables
Week 5 - Writing and Graphing Inequalities
Week 6 -Solving Inequalities Using Addition and Subtraction
Week 7 - Solving Inequalities Using Multiplication and Division
Week 8 - Three Dimensional Figures
Week 9 - Surface Area and Volume

*Week designation for each topic can change depending on the needs of the class.

After week 5, we can schedule a time to conference about your student.  It is not mandatory, but I would be happy to discuss your child's progress.

This is a Flex Schedule class.  The classes will be recorded in such a way that your child will be able to take notes, but will also be able to try to solve problems on his/her own.  Then he/she will be able to check their work immediately to confirm that it was completed correctly, or show them exactly where the errors were. The students will expected to watch videos, participate in online discussions between students/teacher, complete homework, complete quizzes, and ask/answer questions that are posted in the classroom.  

I encourage students to NOT have calculators during class.  It has been my experience that students tend to rely too heavily on calculators instead of their own knowledge and number sense.  

PREREQUISITES:  Student must have either taken my Quarter 1 and 2 classes, or be proficient with fractions, order of operations, multiplying and dividing decimals. ratios, rates, and positive and negative integers.
