This is the fourth part of a year-long 6th-grade math course. Each week we will meet two times. On Monday, I will introduce and teach the concept for that week. After this class, I'll assign homework problems from the textbook that learners will need to complete before our class on Thursday. Thursday we will go over the homework problems and play a game related to the topic for the week. After class on Thursday, I'll give out some additional, optional homework problems for those who need extra practice and post video explanations to the classroom page. Here is the weekly breakdown: Week 1: Graphing points in all 4 quadrants of a coordinate plane, Finding the distance between points Week 2: Review Properties of Quadrilaterals and Triangles, Draw Shapes on the Coordinate Plane given coordinates of vertices Week 3: Area of Parallelograms, Triangles, and Trapezoids Week 4: Area of composite figures Week 5: Volume with fractions, Surface Area My teaching style is an interactive lecture. When presenting new topics, I'll explain the concepts, show examples, answer questions, and ask learners specific questions to check for understanding. I will show many examples of how math can be applied in life. For the games, we will sometimes use Nearpod, Kahoot or Google Drive which means that learners will need to be able to toggle back and forth between zoom and their internet browser or use split-screen. Parental assistance may be required for this.
