In this ongoing class students will learn sixth grade math, practice problems together, and play a game to reinforce the new skill each week!

US Grade 6
This is an ongoing class that will meet once each week to learn topics that are typically taught in 6th grade!!! This is a great class for students to review 6th grade topics over the summer or prepare learners for their sixth grade year! In class each week I will do a mini lesson about the new topic along with examples. Next, the students will work to solve some on their own! Students will be encouraged to share their problem solving with the group through discussion, the chat box, and the whiteboard feature on zoom! Each week a game will be used to engage learners in practice of the new skill! Games may include bingo, kahoot, Blooket, Jeopardy, and Pictionary! Week of 6/9: Ratios Week of 6/16: Multiplying fractions and mixed numbers (includes area and substitution!) Week of 6/23: Dividing fractions and mixed numbers Week of 6/30: Fraction word problems Week of 7/7: Plotting integers on a number line, comparing and ordering integers Week of 7/14: no class, no charge Week of 7/21: Graphing points in all 4 quadrants of the coordinate plane. Week of 7/28: Translating expressions/equations and solving one step equations Week of 8/4: Finding the area of parallelogram, triangles Week of 8/11: Area of trapezoids
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of six grade math topics.

Hi!! I’m Mrs. Drye. I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from UNC Chapel Hill and a Masters Degree in Middle Grades Math Education from UNC-Charlotte. I was a NC Teaching Fellow and Teacher of the Year when I taught 6th grade math! As a teacher I focus on building relationships with students so that I can help them to build their math confidence. I focus on differentiating learning for each of my students. I can extend learning for some learners while helping others to review a topic that’s tough for them. I encourage students to share their math thinking and guide them in learning new strategies. I also keep class fun and exciting with games, discussion, and songs! I taught 5th and 6th grade for 8 years before deciding to stay home and homeschool my three girls. My daughters are now 10, 8, and almost 6! I enjoy exploring new places, teaching, and exercising!Reviews
