In this 6th grade math course, students will gain a new confidence and understanding for 6th grade math. This is an appropriate class for an advanced 5th grader, or a student in 6th grade, or even a student looking to review. Students are encouraged to have a graph paper notebook to complete each weeks work. Students will begin each class discussing academic vocabulary for the days lesson. The quiz taken a week prior will be discussed, areas of weakness will be reviewed. Following academic vocabulary, students are taught through the model of "I do, we do, you do". I will begin all lessons by completing practice problems, showing them how to break down each problem. Then as a class we will complete several examples together. By the end of the lesson students will be asked to solve multiple problems independently, then we will share out our answers. Following the lesson, students will be given a link to a quiz that contains practice problems similar to the days lesson. If we have time during the lesson, students will complete the quiz during class. Students will be asked to complete the quiz so that I can review any areas of weakness. I encourage class participation, however if a student would like to sit and follow along that is ok as well. As we only have one hour for each topic, it is important that students continue to practice what they have learned following the lesson to ensure that they mastered the concept.
