US Grade 6

For info on 6th Grade Math Summer Camp scroll down to the 🌴! ↔️ FLIPPED CLASS: This class will follow a “flipped model.” Students watch my video lessons the day before our class to get an introduction to the new topic, try it out, and gather questions. They can pause, rewind, and rewatch as needed. The following day in class we will practice the concept with more...

My first goal is for students to have a positive relationship with math. Hopefully, I can build up their confidence and lower any stress around the subject. I try to normalize mistakes and create a low pressure, supportive and fun class environment. I'm a Credentialed Middle and High School Math Teacher with 12 years teaching experience in grades 6 through 10 and a Master’s in Teaching. I started my career teaching middle school math and then moved up to high school. I love teaching middle school after having taught high school because I have a very clear idea of where they are headed and exactly what they need to succeed in their first years of high school math.
Homework Offered
The homework will be to watch a 15-25 minute video lesson the day before a class meeting. -Example- Monday: watch video lesson and take notes Tuesday: class meets and we discuss, dissect, and practice the topic Wednesday: watch video lesson and take notes Thursday: class meets and we discuss, dissect, and practice the topic Friday: optional practice assignments or assessments to review the week1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Assessments will be provided throughout the course so students have feedback on their progress and level of mastery. Some will be informal assessments like in class games, exit tickets, or the homework. Those assignments will come with keys or will be self grading for instant feedback. I will also provide more formal “tests” for students to take at home at the end of a unit or in the middle of a larger unit. I will provide the answer keys to parents.Grades Offered
Pen, paper and occasionally a calculator. PDF’s of the lesson notes will be provided for learners to print for class. A tablet with a stylus would be helpful but not required.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
We will use Blooket as a practice game. Students will NOT need to log in or provide personal information. They will NOT need an account. I provide a link in class for them to access the live game so only students in the class will have access. ClassKick may be used and would be easiest to use on a tablet type device where students can use a stylus or apple pencil. It would not be required but allows me to see how they are solving a problem (essentially peek over their shoulder).
I have been teaching math at the middle and high school level for the past 12 years. In that time I have taught all types of learners and courses from 6th grade through Integrated Math 2 (Algebra and Geometry). I came to Outschool aiming to...
