Credentialed Middle and High School Math Teacher with 10 years teaching experience in grades 6 through 10 math and a Master’s in Teaching. I started my career teaching middle school math and then moved up to high school. I love teaching middle school after having taught high school because I have a very clear idea of where they are headed and exactly what they need to succeed in their first years of high school math.
🌼 SPRING 🌼: I will assign but not require homework. Homework should take no more than 30 minutes per assignment. I will include answer keys so students have immediate feedback on how well they understand the concepts. On days we do not meet for class I would like them to work on the homework or to teach someone at home what they learned that week to support the learning process. 🍁 FALL🍁 : The homework will be to watch a 15-25 minute video lesson the day before a class meeting. Example: Monday: watch video lesson and take notes Tuesday: class meets and we discuss, dissect, and practice the topic Wednesday: watch video lesson and take notes Thursday: class meets and we discuss, dissect, and practice the topic Friday: optional practice assignments or assessments to review the week
Pen, paper and occasionally a calculator. PDF’s of the lesson notes will be provided for learners to print for class. A tablet with a stylus would be helpful but not required.
🍁 FALL🍁 Assessments will be provided throughout the course so students have feedback on their progress and level of mastery. Some will be informal assessments like in class games, exit tickets, or the homework. Those assignments will come with keys or will be self grading for instant feedback. I will also provide more formal “tests” for students to take at home at the end of a unit or in the middle of a larger unit. I will provide the answer keys to parents.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
We will use Blooket as a practice game. Students will NOT need to log in or provide personal information. They will NOT need an account. I provide a link in class for them to access the live game so only students in the class will have access. ClassKick may be used and would be easiest to use on a tablet type device where students can use a stylus or apple pencil. It would not be required but allows me to see how they are solving a problem (essentailly peek over their shoulder).
