US Grade 6
This course is the 2nd semester(15 weeks) of an entire school year course (see syllabus below). Prior to this course students should be confident in adding, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They should also have worked with topics 1-5 below and/or taken a semester of 6th grade previously. Class Structure - I provide each student with their own copy of a Google Slides presentation. This is where they will complete their work during class and homework. Students must have a google account that is not locked (ie: most school accounts) to use the slides. We will occasionally have brain breaks with games or videos, and sometimes even play Kahoots! Every class begins with a few minutes of socialization/getting to know each other. Then I teach a math skill, model the skill, and let the students practice the skill. Grades can be given based on participation, if requested by parents. I do not give grades based on work completed because I do not believe in allow students t get the wrong answer. We will continue working on every problem together until all students find the correct answer, even on quizzes. Teaching Style - My teaching style is relaxed and fun. I want the students to be comfortable in my class. I believe that when a student is comfortable and having fun with the teach, they learn the best. I want to foster my students' confidence in their math abilities. Syllabus - Below are the topics that we will cover through the entire school year. The 2nd semester should cover topics 7 thru 11, but topics will overlap and vary based on students' needs. Semester 1: Topic 1 - Order of Operations, Powers/Exponents, and Factors Topic 2 - Fractions Topic 3 - Decimals Topic 4 - Algebraic Expressions Topic 5 - Areas of Polygons Topic 6 - Rates and Ratios Semester 2: Topic 7 - Integers and Coordinate Plane Topic 8 - Equations and Inequalities Topic 9 - Surface Area and Volume Topic 10 - Statistics, Mean, Mode, and Median Topic 11 - Data Displays
Learning Goals

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from WGU
I have a Bachelor of Art in K-8 Interdisciplinary Studies. I have worked with students, ages 2 - 18, in multiple different settings including public schools, private daycares, Girl Scouts, and homeschooling my own children from primary school through high school graduation. I have worked as a Teachers' Aid in a 6-8th grade building in all core classes including 6-8th grade math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geography, Civics, Life Science, and ELA. As a Teacher's Aid, my job was to pull small groups of students and reteach the concepts that were taught by the teacher, but in a easier to understand way for the students that struggled with the concepts. I also worked closely with the teachers to develop class curriculum for both the whole class and for struggling learners. I have over 10 years of experience working with children with both special learning and behavioral needs in a public classroom setting.
