Learners will have the opportunity to study with the same certified teacher throughout the year, while cultivating relationships with their peers! Classes will be held Monday-Friday each week with chances for individual help with Miss Sarah before or after each class. Each week learners will have one homework assignment per subject. Students will learn the core standards for all subjects applicable to 6th grade. Students will leave class feeling confident in their abilities to complete age-level and grade-level appropriate tasks in math, language arts, science, social studies and social skills.
As a certified teacher, Miss Sarah is qualified to teach pre-k through grade 12 general education, special education as well as music education and Spanish. After graduating in 2016, Miss Sarah continued her education through professional development courses, conferences and giving presentations. Miss Sarah studied world views as well as music and politics to gain knowledge of different cultures, their values and their history. Miss Sarah is a special education teacher certified to differentiate assignments based on student abilities. Additionally, Miss Sarah is certified in curriculum development and design for both general and special education. In brick and mortar schools, Miss Sarah taught history of Ancient European and African cultures, traditions and music. Additionally, Miss Sarah taught a unit study on slavery, abolitionists, the Civil War and the Underground Railroad.
Homework Offered
One homework assignment per subject, per week, will be assigned. Homework will take no more than 30 minutes per subject. Students will also work on a variety of projects both during class and outside of class. A calendar will be provided with due dates for book club reading and larger projects.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will be assessed through mini projects, experiments and weekly homework assignments. Students will also participate in game based assessments, Nearpods, Kahoots, Spelling Bees and reading circles.Grades Offered
When experiments are planned, parents will be notified of all supplies and given the option to be supervise.
Math worksheets, assessments and homework will be created and generated my Miss Sarah. Social studies curriculum will Beast Academy be used as a curriculum guide. Students will also utilized short stories and articles, depending on the unit. Sources will include National Geographic, Smithsonian's History Explorer, Newsela and National Archives.
