Class Experience
Welcome to sixth grade math! I can't wait for you to join the Moxie Learning family! This series of 4 classes can be used as your child's sole math course for their year or as a supplement to another math class or curriculum. Students should have successfully completed a fifth grade math class. We will work through the Singapore Math Dimensions curriculum which is aligned with common core standards. Students will deepen their understanding of whole number operations. Students will be able to solve equations accurately using order of operations. Students will be able to find correct multiples and factors of numbers. Students will be able to utilize properties of multiplication and division. Students will deepen their understanding of a fraction as smaller than a whole number. Students will be able to accurately multiply fractions by a whole number and by another fraction. Students will be able to accurately divide fractions by a whole number and by another fraction. Students will expand their understanding of number lines to include decimals to the hundred thousandth place. Students will be able to correctly compute the addition and subtraction of decimals. Students will be able to correctly compute the multiplication and division of decimals. Students will practice personal responsibility by coming to class on time and prepared each day. Students will consistently raise their hand and take turns speaking. Students will improve their ability to collaborate with diverse classmates to accomplish goals.
Students will have no more than 10 minutes of homework outside of class time each day. If students miss a class they will be expected to view the missed class recording as soon as possible.
Most materials are included in the cost of the class (textbook, student notebook, etc.). Students will also need to print out tests at the end of each chapter to be completed in class.
Students will be assessed informally on an ongoing basis. At the end of each chapter, a formal test will be given to formally monitor student progress. A formal letter grade can be provided upon request at the beginning of the course.
3 hours 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
