US Grade 6
Welcome to sixth grade math! I can't wait for you to join the Moxie Learning family! This series of 4 classes can be used as your child's sole math course for their year or as a supplement to another math class or curriculum. Students should have successfully completed a fifth grade math class. We will work through the Singapore Math Dimensions curriculum which is aligned with common core standards. The Singapore Math curriculum is a very rigorous curriculum that demands a deep understanding of concepts from students. Often, our book will dive deeper into a concept than is required for the grade level. Our students often test above grade level after a year with us. In this class, we will play many games to practice the concepts we are learning. My teaching style is "I do, We do, You do" through this method, I am able to meet students where they are at and differentiate their learning. Our classes become small families throughout the quarter and year. It is important for students to come to class ready to participate in their learning with their cameras on and limited distractions around them. Here is a sample schedule of our class. I may adapt this schedule to fit the needs of the learners in each section. Weeks 1 Introduction to our class and our materials Chapter 1: Whole Numbers -Order of Operations Weeks 2 & 3 Chapter 1: Whole numbers - Multiples and Factors -Properties of Multiplication -Properties of Division Weeks 4-5 Chapter 1: Solving Equations Weeks 6-8 Chapter 2: Fractions -Multiplying fractions -Dividing fractions

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello,
My name is Amy Sneath and I am the creator of Moxie Learning. Our company of teachers aim to provide a world class education without the limits of physical location. We form true classroom communities that rival those of traditional school. Friendships and true connection alongside academic excellence are regular occurrences at Moxie Learning.
When I was in school, I fell victim to math phobia and believed I was "bad" at math. Now I pride myself on meeting students where they are at and building their confidence to see they can learn any concept. I have experience in traditional 3rd and 4th grade classrooms teaching math and have seen first hand the difference in student achievement when they build confidence in themselves. This creates a life long love of learning which is even more valuable than the specific skills they will learn in my classroom.
Our team of teachers have several years of online educational experience in various grade levels and subjects. Both of our teachers graduated college with honors and are life long learners themselves. We are excited to share our love of learning with your children!
