Class Experience

US Grade 6
This class is part of a series of classes meant to provide opportunities for students to review and practice math concepts taught through Eureka Math, Grade 6, Module 1. This class does not use problems from the textbook, and does not teach the concepts using the same methodologies as the textbook. Learners are able to bring problems from their textbook for help and clarification, but they must already have the materials as materials and/or access to the Eureka curriculum will not be provided in this class. Instead, this class follows the same sequence of concepts as the textbook in order to align supplemental learning. Below is a list of concepts that we will be covering during this course.

Week 1: Writing Ratios and Equivalent Ratios
Week 2: Ratio Tables and Ratio Word Problems
Week 3: Unit Rates and Unit Prices
Week 4: Writing Percent and Converting Between Percent, Decimals, and Fractions
Week 5: Percent of a Number and Calculating Percent

This class follows a "flipped" classroom model, where interactive videos introducing the concepts that will be covered in the next class meeting will be sent ahead of time. These video activities are optional, but are a good way to review concepts before the class meeting so that more of the meeting time can be spent practicing the concepts. After each live class meeting, an optional practice activity covering the previous lessons' topics will be send in order to provide more opportunities for independent practice.

Please note that this is a multi-day class with a set schedule. Please review the entire schedule before enrolling, as missed classes will not be rescheduled or refunded. Thank you!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I have been teaching in the public school setting for the past fifteen years, and tutoring privately for the past six years. I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade in math, reading, writing mechanics, American History, and beginning Spanish. I especially enjoy working with students in small groups or individually, and have recently developed skills as an online educator due to school closures. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy watching television and movies, and traveling with my family.
