US Grade 6
This full-year 6th grade english language arts (ELA) curriculum is based on the Common Core Standards and encompasses reading, writing and math. The class is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills. Learners are welcome to join the class at any time. Although some class content will build from the previous week, it will not prevent the new learner from understanding the concept we are covering during the current week. For example, some weeks, learners may choose to continue a writing piece they started in a previous class, or we may continue reading a book we started in a class prior. In both these circumstances, new learners will be given all the information they need to be successful in class. I believe in meeting learners at their current academic level and providing an encouraging learning environment to facilitate meaningful learning. I encourage discussions and lots of interaction but also understand some learners prefer to refrain from participating and enjoy listening to class discussions. Each subject taught (reading, writing, and grammar) will include a mini-lesson, group practice, and independent practice. Homework will be given based on what is covered during the week. The mini-lesson will include the new teaching point, which the teacher will demonstrate. Reading topics will include identifying key ideas and details, analyzing craft and structure, comprehension and discussion. All lessons will be taught through reading a book together and to self. Learners will need to have a copy of the book used during class. The teacher will provide the book needed at least 2 weeks ahead of time. ⭐⭐⭐I cannot share class recordings as per agreements with publishers, who have granted permission to use specific materials under the condition that videos are not posted. Your understanding and cooperation in respecting these agreements are greatly appreciated. Additionally, please note that refunds will not be issued for missed classes. Thank you for your understanding and commitment to our shared learning experience. ⭐⭐⭐ Week 1: Sept. 2 Reading: Book Study Writing: Narrative Week 2: Sept. 8 Reading: Book Study Writing: Narrative Week 3: Sept. 15th Reading: Book Study Writing: Narrative Week 4: Sept. 22nd Reading: Book Study Writing: Narrative Week 5: Sept. 29th Reading: Book Study Writing: Editing Process and Shared Writing Week 6: Oct. 6th Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write Week 7: Oct. 13th Reading: Book Study Writing: Share Writing Week 8: Oct. 20th Reading: Book Study Writing: Understanding Argumentative Writing Week 9: Oct. 27th Reading: Book Study Writing: Argumentative Essay Week 10: Nov. 3rd Reading: Book Study Writing: Argumentative Essay Week 11: Nov 10th Reading: Book Study Writing: Argumentative Essay Week 12: Nov 17th Reading: Book Study Writing: Shared Writing Day Week 13: Nov 24th Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write Week 14: Dec. 1st Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write Week 15: Dec. 8th Reading: Book Study Writing: Informative Writing Week 16: Dec. 15th Reading: Book Study Writing: Informative Writing Week 17: Jan. 5 Reading: Book Study Writing: Informative Writing Week 18: Jan. 12 Reading: Book Study Writing: Informative Writing Week 19: Jan. 19 Reading: Book Study Writing: Informative Writing Week 20: Jan. 26 Reading: Book Study Writing: Shared Writing Day! s Week 21: Feb. 2 Reading: Book Study Writing:Free Write Week 22: Feb. 9 Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write Week 23: Feb. 16 Reading: Book Study Writing: Research Writing Week 24: Feb. 23 Reading: Book Study Writing: Research Writing Week 25: March 2 Reading: Book Study Writing: Research Writing Week 26: March 9 Reading: Book Study Writing: Research Writing Week 27: March 16 Reading: Book Study Writing: Shared Writing Day Week 28: March 23 Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write Week 29: March 30 Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write Week 30:April 6 Reading: Book Study Writing: Poetry Week 31: April 13 Reading: Book Study Writing: Poetry Week 32: April 20 Reading: Book Study Writing: Poetry Week 33: April 27 Reading: Non-fiction Writing: Poetry Week 34: May 4 Reading: Non-fiction Writing: Creative Writing Week 35: May 11 Reading: Non-fiction Writing: Creative Writing Week 36: May 18 Reading: Non-fiction Writing: Creative Writing Week 37: May 25 Reading: Book Study Writing: Creative Writing Week 38: June 1 Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write Week 39: June 8 Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write
