US Grade 6 - 8
In this 4-week, twice a week class, students will learn and practice Argumentative Writing through lecture, guided discussion, and group and individual practice. This class will provide direct writing instruction in Argumentative Writing. As a class, students will work through the process of brainstorming, organizing, writing, and editing an argumentative essay. As part of this process, students will submit a piece of writing using argumentative writing on topic of their choice that serves a specific purpose and addresses a particular audience. Week 1 - Lesson 1 - Discovering the Elements of an Argumentative Essay - pt 1 Week 1 - Lesson 2 - Discovering the Elements of an Argumentative Essay - pt 2 Week 2 - Lesson 1 - Writing an Argumentative Class Essay - pt. 1 Week 2 - Lesson 2 - Writing an Argumentative Class Essay - pt. 2 Week 3 - Lesson 1 - Writing an Argumentative Essay with Peers - pt. 1 Week 3 - Lesson 2 - Writing an Argumentative Essay with Peers - pt. 2 Week 4 - Lesson 1 - Writing an Argumentative Essay Independently - Pt. 1 Week 4 - Lesson 2 - Writing an Argumentative Essay Independently - Pt. 2 The Final Individual Writing will be a final homework assignment due via "Conversation" and will be scored within 48 hours using the scoring Rubric and feedback.
Learning Goals
Students will understand the process for writing an argumentative essay and will write one independently at the end of class for a writting score and feedback.
