Overview: During this 14- week course we will work through the Saxon Math 6/5 (Homeschool, fourth edition) textbook. This book covers several topics that you can find listed online through the Saxon website. We will meet for 55 minutes, twice a week to cover and discuss the lessons 1-60. Each class period will have 2-3 lessons covered in a lecture and then there will be time at the end of class to start homework and ask questions. At the end of every 5-10 lessons there will be a test that...
The learning goal of this course is to have complete knowledge and understanding of the first 60 lesson topics that the Saxon Math 7/6 textbook covers. Students should be comfortable completing assignments that include these topics as well as able to summarize and explain them on their own.
I have taught Saxon Math middle school and high school courses for several years in a private school in Arizona. I also completed Saxon textbooks while I was being homeschool in high school. My knowledge and understanding of this curriculum comes from both teaching and learning through these books.
At the start of the class each student will be given a syllabus that will outline the homework, lessons, tests, worksheets, and expectations for the semester. Homework will be assigned based on how the lesson is understood by the students. A usual day will consist of 10-15 questions per lesson (maybe more) for the days between the next class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Tests and worksheets will be given to the students as assessments of their understanding.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
