Class Experience
In this weekly private tutoring session, you will improve your understanding and confidence in music theory. Whether you’re a complete beginner, somewhat experienced, or an expert looking to take things to the next level, I will work with you one on one and personalize each lesson to your own goals and needs. Starting with the basics (or whatever level of experience you have) and advancing as we go, you will learn to read: - Note names - Note lengths - Key signatures - Time signatures - Solfege - Chords If you are already comfortable reading music, you will learn the more advanced music theory concepts of: - Counterpoint/Fugues - Extended chords - Borrowed chords and modulation - Form (if you are working on any skills not listed, just let me know, and I will put something together for you). We will spend each lesson learning new skills at a pace comfortable for you and practicing older skills to make them a habit. If you have any specific projects outside of this class that you want help with, you may bring them in and we will work on them together. We will use a variety of methods to learn, including games, flashcards, conversational guidance, and demonstrations. Throughout the lesson, I will give you personalized feedback and guide you to find ways to master challenging skills. My teaching style will adapt to fit your personal needs and the way you like to learn, but my goal is to make every lesson fun and helpful for you.

Hi! I’m Mr. Bennett. I am a voice teacher, music production teacher, and more than anything a music theory nerd who’s passionate about education. I draw upon 10 years of formal study in vocal performance and music theory. As a musician who has experience with styles ranging all the way from Baroque choral music to EDM and back again, I believe that learning foundational skills gives us the versatility and freedom to work across all genres holistically. My philosophy is that we all have our own unique musical identities, my mission is to help you find and own yours.
