Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
1. Students will read with appropriate rate and expression. 2. Students will accurately respond to comprehension questions. 3. Students will decide accurately.
I have a Master of Arts with an Emphasis in Reading. I have three years experience teaching Preschool Special Education and working with students on the Autism Spectrum. I have experience teaching Second and First Grade. I have taught a Close the Gap program, have taught summer school, and have tutored students up through Twelfth Grade. I have also worked the summer Clubhouse Reading Tutoring program at my university. I am highly qualified to tutor struggling readers and I am so excited to support your learner and build their confidence!
Learners will be assigned a reading log journal and asked to read a little bit each day. They may read whatever they choose and for however long they like. We will discuss the reading log journal in class. There may be times when a student expresses interest in a specific book that we will create a homework plan for that learner to read their book individually outside of class so that we can discuss it together in class. We will use this assignment as an opportunity to study specific words and phonics patterns from the text. We may use excerpts from the text as fluency practice, copyright permission depending. I will make all efforts to incorporate student interests and chosen texts in the classroom provided that copyright allows it. I will assign a maximum half hour of homework between classes.

The learners will be assessed using a pre-assessment and post-assessment. All assessments come with a written report. I will also use observational, informal assessment.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
External Resources: 1. Canva - I use Canva Slides often. I use Canva to publish written works for learners to read. I also may use Canva interactively in class to give learners the opportunity to design book covers and other relevant graphics related to the class. However, learners will not be given a link to the website or asked to use the website alone. I will have them direct me as I click on graphics and designs they like; Canva will only be used in class. 2. Google Slides - I use this platform occasionally for class slides. 3. Kahoot - Learners will use Kahoot to engage in interactive activities. They will not need an account, but will have to provide a name on the site. The link will be posted in the classroom. 4. Blooket - Learners will use Blooket to engage in interactive learning activities. An account is not required, but they will need to provide a nickname.
